Five Roads Beyond Stonebrook

Stonebrook anchors five roads through weather, creature country, guarded descents, and a Rift-evidence trail to Northwatch.

Stonebrook’s fields, walls, market, guildward, and quay anchor four distinct journeys beyond the town lamps: the freight road to Northwatch, the fork toward the Wolf Den and Orc Camp, the inspected Near Rift descent, and the funeral road into the Mourning Verge.

Lower Quay makes the wider realm readable before a fare changes hands. Harbor Road joins the depot turn to the water and five separate signed waiting bays for Northwatch, Sunpier, Riverwatch, Gravewatch, and Ashen Seal inspection. Each bay can be inspected on its own, while Captain Aron keeps the ledger for every departure.

The North Road is a journey of distance and recovery. Quarry shelves, wagon traffic, bandit sight lines, and a raised road shrine lead to Northwatch, a weather-beaten outpost with a ledger, depot, quartermaster, ranger board, and a free stable route home. It is small because it has work to do, not because it is an unfinished capital.

East of the farms, the road now teaches its dangers before asking for a fight. Wolf sign gathers into a defended den, while cut fences and stolen Stonebrook freight reveal the orc track. To the south, blue homeward posts, white path stones, funeral customs, and hooded lanterns carry the road by degrees from living orchards to the first cemetery omen.

Beneath ordinary mainland stone, the Near Rift offers a controlled first descent: separated encounters, a recoverable survey cache, and a return stair that stays worth remembering. The ash-marked proof found there is not a key to skip the wider world. Carried to Northwatch, it becomes the first link in a chain through a ranger’s field evidence to the mainland wardens and the larger story of the Ward Stones.

Broken rain crosses Stonebrook's cobbles, low fog moves along East Bounds, and pale and ember-red ash drifts above the marked Near Rift cut. Health, targets, prompts, and combat warnings stay at the frame, leaving the road itself clear enough to read.

These roads make retreat lines, evidence, and useful places to pause part of every journey. A shrine gives shelter without pretending the next mile is safe. A blue post points home. A cave entrance leaves room to reconsider. The mainland explains itself through what travelers can see and survive.

Ulna remains in limited invite access. The gallery and field guides show enough to plan a first road without opening the guarded routes that should still be discovered in play.
